Alder Veterinary Practice was established in May 1982, by Mike and Diane Alder. The site was formerly a hairdressers, and change of use was granted to create a Veterinary Surgery. Mike and Diane worked tirelessly in the early days, establishing the reputation of the practice as a centre for excellent, but fairly priced veterinary care. In the first seven years of owning the business, Mike had a total of 2 weeks holiday! After 30 years devoted to his practice, patients, clients and staff, Mike retired to allow him to spend more time with the 3 other passions in his life – his wife, his grandchildren, and his golf clubs.
In April 2011, Chris and Lucy Gray took over the task of maintaining the quality and continuity of care that the practice is renowned for. They fully committed to continuing to run the practice in the same way as Mr. Alder, with dedication and hard work; yet also this is an exciting new venture, and they undertook a total refurbishment of the surgery, improving parking, and further developing the practice. The practice continues to grow, and currently there are 5 vets and 10 nursing/reception staff.
Alder Veterinary Practice delivers high quality veterinary care from an established team, most of whom have worked at the practice for several years. Family-run and independent, we offer compassion and attention to detail to both clients and patients alike. Lucy and Chris have pledged to continue to cultivate the traditional ethos whilst still driving the business forward technologically and aesthetically. We now offer all of state-of-the art blood analysis, all performed in-house, meaning that we can have your pet’s blood results within eight minutes – much shorter than we humans have to wait!
Chris comes from a sheep farming background in Northumberland. He qualified from Edinburgh, achieving a First Class with Distinction and winning the William Dick Prize for the most distinguished graduate. He then worked for almost ten years at a busy small animal hospital in Essex, which has equipped him with the experience and skills needed to look after your pet.
