A major recruitment drive has seen six new vets join the expert team at the £1.4m state-of-the-art Alder Veterinary Practice in Guildford.
The flagship Linnaeus has made the raft of appointments as part of an ambitious expansion project which has seen it relocate to a new purpose-built, 5,000 sq ft surgery in Queen Elizabeth Park, Railton Road.
Elizabeth Wozniak, lead clinical director at Alder, said the practice’s new additions would help them continue to provide its high level of care and treatment for patients and clients. She said: “Welcoming six new vets to the practice is a clear indication of our commitment to deliver a level of excellence in treatment and care which is second-to-none. The increased size and expanded facilities at our new practice have created opportunities to recruit extra clinicians and ensure we remain at the very forefront of veterinary care. Everyone’s incredibly excited to be here and we’re proud to be held up as a flagship practice model for other primary care surgeries within Linnaeus.”
Zoe Larum has been appointed as Alder’s new lead veterinary surgeon and she’s keen to make an impact. Zoe, who graduated from the University of Sydney, Australia in 2012, said “I enjoy feline medicine, emergency and critical care and internal medicine. I am also interested in pain management, complementary therapies and enjoy teaching vet students and new vets. It’s so rewarding to see them grow and progress.”
Fellow new recruit Alex Hill added: “I’m looking forward to being able to offer a high level of care as part of such a strong, empathetic team. Surgery is my main passion and I am currently working towards a post-graduate certificate in small animal surgery as I aim to help Alder further increase the scope of what we can offer surgically to our clients.”
Ilaria Falcini, qualified as a vet in 2015 at the University of Pisa and achieved the post-graduate certificate in small animal surgery in 2019. She said: “My special interests are in laparoscopy and ophthalmology and I’m looking forward to using all my skills to help our pet patients at Alder Vets.”
Jade Urquhart-Gilmore graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2021 and has a keen interest in both behavioural cases and sustainability. Jade is keen to expand her knowledge at Alder, saying: “It’s a wonderful opportunity to be able to work in an environment with such high clinical standards. I aim to start a master’s in clinical animal behaviour to further my knowledge in this area and champion sustainability within our practice.”
Fellow new starter Brogan Swan’s main areas of interest are internal medicine, imaging, and emergency and critical care. She graduated from Cardiff University with a Biomedical Degree and then attended Surrey University to study Veterinary Medicine. She’s clearly dedicated to caring for animals, revealing: “I’ve recently also joined StreetVet, a charitable organisation that provides essential care to the pets of homeless people.”
Helena Ascough, who graduated from Cambridge University last year, is also joining Alder and added: “I am really excited to have joined the team here at Alder to start my veterinary career. I have a particular interest in emergency and critical care work but I’m keen to gain experience in all aspects of general practice equally.”
Alder’s impressive new surgery includes separate dog and cat waiting areas, a dedicated exotics ward, two operating theatres and a dental suite, as well as a pharmacy and dedicated on-site parking spaces.
